This is a clone of the very first commercial revision of the most famous FET compressor of all time. It has a little more grit than all of the other versions, which is very much my speed.
I opted to swap the Cinnemag C3837-1 input transformer with a vintage UTC 0-12, which is what the original boxes came with. I actually bought a vintage UREI output transformer as well, but in the end, I decided to go with the Custom Ed Anderson 5002 because I read a lot of great stuff about that hunk of iron and decided that I'd go with it. I'm very happy with how it turned out, overall.
There is an option for an input pad, which I did not do, but I plan to. This box has a lower threshold and more gain than all other 1176's, so the pad helps to bring it closer to those designs. The build guide suggests to "frog wire" a t-pad resister to the input, but I think I'll drill a hole in the face plate and put this on a toggle switch so I can go back to the original. Probably unnecessary, but I'm just extra in that way.
Had to panel-mount the UTC 0-12
Running LCR on the transformers:
