I recently bought a Calrad mic that looks very cool but sounds very bad. I decided I’d resolve this issue by replacing the wimpy cartridge/diaphragm with a NOS Shure Unisphere cartridge and a vintage Unidyne-era Shure transformer. I learned a lot about how much the mic body resonance affects the sound. Stuffed this one with mass loaded vinyl & speaker cabinet liner to combat the weird resonance that comes with this vibey mic body. Great way to spend a Saturday evening - 10/10 would recommend.
